Review:
Being that we are first time parents we did not know what to expect. I recall after our first ultrasound to confirm the existence of our little peanut, we felt like our world already changed. The doctor explained my prenatal visit schedule which entails seeing the provider once every 4 weeks until 30 weeks…. Hold on, we will only come in ONCE every FOUR weeks until I’m 30 weeks pregnant?! Personally, I was shocked…. How would we know if our little peanut is doing okay between appointments?
Hello, baby monitor! After much research and taking into consideration a conservative budget, we decided to order the Womb Music baby monitor on Amazon. The monitor had strong reviews, seemed really easy to use and my wallet didn’t want to run in the other direction.
The monitor arrive quickly and came in a small package (fit in my mailbox). The monitor is very easy to use, it’s self explanatory. Just pop-in the batteries, insert the headset(s), put oil on your belly (I used Burt’s Bee Body Oil, or Johnson's Baby Oil), and turn on the device- enjoy finding your baby!
The first time we used the monitor we probably got lucky because we were able to immediately find the baby. I was 16 weeks when I first used it. Now I’m approaching 20 weeks and we still use it but find it a bit more difficult to find him… he seems to move once we find him. Regardless, it provides me comfort to know that he’s still there, especially since I can’t feel him wiggling around. As far as recording, they do provide you with a computer cable which worked with our MacBook, and although the computer cable fit the iPhone jack, the iPhone was unable to record any sound. My husbands solution… use the cable splitter (included), open the phone recorder app, and turn up the volume to record from the earbuds, worked great and we didn’t have to mess around with connecting it to our laptop! We were able to text the audio to family.
Overall, we found this very easy to use and doesn’t require any special kind of lotion or oil. We do wish that the monitor had a display to count the heart rate, we just estimate the heartbeat by counting the beats for 10 seconds and then multiply it by 6. In addition, it would be nice to have a speaker to listen to the baby. I’m not a fan of earbuds, they always fall out and the ones they provide are very cheap versions of Apple’s iPhone earbuds. For the price though, the monitor works great and would recommend it!
